July 26 - Gods Balanced Scales (Proverbs 15-16)

In a recent poll conducted of more than 1,000 U.S. readers of WebMD, nearly half of the women and almost one-quarter of the men said they had gained weight “due to COVID restrictions.” I am sure many people stepped on the scale for the first time after being quarantined and wondered if the scales were properly calibrated. Many probably stepped off, checked to make sure the scales were set at zero (or below!) before stepping on again. Every scale needs to be properly calibrated in order to be accurate. However, there is one scale that never has to be calibrated. God’s scales are balanced, honest, and accurate. Explore the Bible study, Gods Balanced Scales, will examine the things God weighs.

The vast majority of the proverbs in this section follow a one-verse format. Because of this, it’s difficult to group them under one major theme. However, for this session, the focus will be on Proverbs 16:11: Honest balances and scales are the Lord’s; all the weights in the bag are his concern. (CSB) It will serve as an overarching statement in order to give a perspective on how God weighs actions examined in specific passages for this session.

The actions that will be examined include:
  • Humility - Proverbs 15:33
  • Words - Proverbs 16:1
  • Motives - Proverbs 16:2
  • Plans - Proverbs 16:3
  • Hearts - Proverbs 16:5
  • Loyalty and Faithfulness - Proverbs 16:6
  • Lifestyle - Proverbs 16:7
  • Treasures - Proverbs 16:8
  • Steps - Proverbs 16:9
