Teaching Helps: May 6, 13, 20

For the next three weeks (May 6, 13, and 20) I will be unable to provide my personal teaching helps and ideas for the Explore the Bible sessions. Here are some tools and ideas I believe you will find equally, if not more helpful to you as you prepare to lead your group:

The Lucian Coleman teaching ideas are provided from the First Baptist Church, Midland, Texas teaching library. Dr. Coleman was a professor in the Education Department at Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth. He has written brief lesson outlines that include short commentary and application points as well as authored several books and resources over the years  that are still relevant today and are related to teaching the Bible.

Resources for May 6: Displaying the Gospel
Believers can face life with confidence, knowing that the power of the gospel will be revealed - 2 Corinthians 4:5-18
Resources for May 13: Becoming New
Believers faithfully represent Christ by living as new creations reconciled to Him - 2 Corinthians 5:16-21; 6:1-2
Resources for May 20: Giving Faithfully
Believers show trust in God by using their resources to meet the needs of others - 2 Corinthians 9:1-15

April 29: Enjoying God's Comfort

There is a lot of discussion today about comfort dogs. While this has been an interesting phenomenon in our country, it does point out something that is important. We are all in need of comfort when we experience difficulties. Sadly, a dog, someone, or something else only offers temporary comfort.  For lasting comfort we must look to Christ. Paul explains this in his opening words in 2 Corinthians 1.

This week marks the beginning of the study of 2 Corinthians. You might want to use the following video as a part of introducing the study before you get into the specifics of this week's session related to God's comfort.

Another video that could be used to begin the session is a rather humorous look at children comforting one another. Enjoy it yourself even if you don't use it!

Matthew 11:28-30 reminds us that Jesus is the only one who can can offer complete comfort and peace in the midst of suffering. This is what Paul was trying to say. He had experienced the comfort of God and desired others to understand how they too could experience His comfort and actually become a conduit of the comfort to others.
