Receiving Direction From God - June 14

It’s amazing that we have become so dependent on GPS for directions. Have you ever wondered how we ever found our way without it?! We should be even more dependent on receiving directions from God. This week's session will focus on Solomon's wisdom regarding how God provides direction to those who place their trust in Him.

Have you ever argued with your GPS about the directions it is giving? My wife and I experienced this recently when we felt that the GPS instructions weren't correct. We were tempted several times to turn off the GPS and just trust in our own wisdom. Fortunately we didn't, and we did arrive at our destination exactly as the GPS instructed!

God gives us clear instructions in Proverbs 3:1-12 regarding how to navigate life. We hear, through Solomon’s words, the voice of God telling us which path to take and how to avoid danger and obstacles. He lets us know when we are making incorrect turns and helps us get back on the right path. However, we must learn to listen and trust God as He gives us directions.

Here is an outline of the approach used in the Downloadable teaching ideas. The approach uses the GPS analogy throughout:
  1. We need a starting point in order to get accurate directions - Proverbs 3:1-2
  2. We need to turn right at the corner of loyalty and faithfulness - Proverbs 3:3-4
  3. We need to continue straight and trust God - Proverbs 3:5-6
  4. Don't turn off the GPS. We need to keep listening to God - Proverbs 3:7-8
  5. We need to "pay our toll": Honor God - Proverbs 3:9-10
  6. Don't argue with the GPS. We should not despise God's instruction or discipline - Proverbs 3:11-12
