June 22: When Tragedy Strikes

BIBLE STUDY HELPS
At some point in our lives, all of us will make that long journey to a graveside to mourn the loss of a loved one. Grief due to the loss of a loved one or another personal tragedy can take its toll on individuals. As we focus on Ezekiel this week we are going to see how Ezekiel responds to the news of the impending death of his wife and the message he is to convey to the people of God about their impending losses. The TARGET of Explore the Bible: When Tragedy Hits Home is . . .

. . . to help adults draw closer to God and seek His will in times of personal tragedy.

As believers, we have the wonderful promise of hope today and Heaven for tomorrow, but the pain of present circumstances can leave us with many unanswered questions and sometimes questioning the goodness of God. For unbelievers the answers to their questions can be insurmountable; yet God stands ready to comfort when grieving and to forgive when the loss is due to our own personal choices.
  • If you would like to read another beautiful story of how loss can help point, not only a nation of people, but an individual back to God, you might want to check out these passages from the life of King David as well (2 Samuel 12:11-23).
  • I have provided several video clip options as well that you might want to consider using.
  • A word of caution: Please be sensitive to those in your group who are facing a possible loss or are grieving the loss of a loved one.
