July 16: God Revealed

What is the most beautiful or amazing display of God's creation you have ever witnessed? What is the most beautiful or amazing revelation of God you have ever experienced from His word? How did you respond to God when you experienced either of these? King David shares us his responses and observations on this subject in Psalm 19:1-14 as we look at this week's session

Use the following to help supplement your discussion of Psalm 19:1-6. Additional helps for Psalm 19:7-14 can be found in the downloadable teaching ideas.

Helps for Psalm 19:1-6

Illustrations for use in guiding the discussion
  • Day and Night - Does anyone know how long the days and nights are at the equator? (12 hours each; this never changes). While the length of days varies from season to season everywhere else in the world, there is still one thing we know – there is always a day, and there is always a night. The pattern never changes. How does Psalm 19:2 describe this consistency? How does this “speak” and “communicate” that there is a God – A Creator of this universe?
  • Newest Ice Berg - Just this week, the newest iceberg was created when a chunk of ice broke off the Antarctic Peninsula. It is a 2,240-square miles of ice! How does this “proclaim” (Psalm 19:1) the work of God’s hands? As a believer, should this demonstration from God’s creation cause alarm?
  • August 21 Solar Eclipse - On Monday, August 21, all of North America be able to experience an eclipse of the sun. NASA is quoted as saying, “Anyone within the path of totality can see one of nature’s most awe inspiring sights – a total solar eclipse.” Has anyone made plans to view the eclipse? How will this eclipse “declare the glory of God” (Psalm 19:1)?
Discussion Question Helps for Contrasting Psalm 19:1-6 with Romans 1:18-22
  • Do you find it difficult to understand how those who have never heard about Jesus are without excuse when it comes to salvation?
