Long term conflict had been the status quo between them and Israel. When Jerusalem burned and the people of God were taken into captivity, the Edomites rejoiced. The result was God judging the Edomites for their arrogance and hatred.
As you prepare to teach this week's study, use the following references to help you understand more fully the extent of the tension between Judah and Edom:
- Genesis 25:19-34
- Genesis 27:1-41
- Genesis 32:1-28
- Genesis 33:1-20
- Genesis 36:6-8
- Deuteronomy 23:7
- 1 Kings 11:14-16
- Amos 1:11
We must never forget that those who don't know Christ will stand before God for judgment and will be condemned to a place never intended for them (Hell); they will be eternally separated from the presence and love of God. This reality should prompt us to have compassion for them. Our compassion should translate into action!
